Meghan Krupka, LMT Meghan brings a highly analytical, specific and intuitive touch to massage therapy. She believes touch is a coveted and intrinsic part of our human existence, and that it can be used to help guide people out of pain, to bolster overall well-being and to generate bodily awareness. Her overarching goals for her clients is to have them walk out knowing more about their physical self, to have relaxed their nervous system into a parasympathetic state, to have reduced discomfort and pain and to have them feeling more confident in movement.

Meghan is also a certified mat Pilates instructor through the Kane School and works full-time as a structural engineer. While Olympic weightlifting is near and dear to her heart, she also enjoys general functional fitness, running, hot yoga and playing sports recreationally.

We are proud to introduce you to Zara, our resident Somatic Movement Therapist - the style of therapy you never knew you needed!

Zara is a weightlifter, acrobat, former yoga teacher and supporter of growth, introspection and the feeling of Feelings.

So, what is Somatic Movement Therapy?

Somatic means “of the body”.

In this type of therapy we get to listen to what the body is saying, and try to get all of us - mind, body, emotions - to join the conversation.

This work can involve talking, introspection, movement, touch, or all of the above.

Somatic movement therapy is a great form of therapy for easing anxiety, stress, tension and pain. It is for anyone who wants to feel more at home in their body.

Zara specialises in a few areas:

Embodiment and emotional understanding:
Most of the time, we are not brought up learning that our inner world is important and should be listened to. But there is a richness of self-understanding that can be gained from paying attention to what’s going on ‘under the hood’. We are complex, emotional beings and we -and our relationships- always benefit from getting to know ourselves better.

Grief support and processing:
There are few human experiences more debilitating than grief. In a city like NYC, it can feel like we are not as well-supported as we would like to be, and grief absolutely requires support. There is space to feel held, and fall apart when needed. Sessions will ultimately move towards integration and looking forward to the future.

Emotional Mediation:
Relationships are hard, and communication through rough patches can be harder. These emotional mediation sessions are for people who want to mend the rift or change the pattern that keeps getting in the way of being able to stay close. This differs from relationship counselling in that we will usually focus on just one main issue, and the aim is for the sessions to be finite and not ongoing.

The benefits of this work are far-reaching, and the following list contains a few of the experiences that can be helped by Somatic Therapy:

Anxiety and worry
Indecision or stuckness
'Inaccessibility' of certain emotions
Depression and low moods
Pain, fear or discomfort in the body
Curiosity around movement and expression
A need to have a space just to express feelings
Grief, loss and sadness
Change
Processing difficult experiences

Zara works out of the Good Reps space on some weekends, and her office in Clinton Hill the rest of the time. Please check out her website and get in touch with her for a free consultation call to see if working with her might be a good fit!
